Does adding Kale to smoothies aid in losing weight?
The kale smoothie recipe for weight loss shared here is low in calories and, on the other hand, high in fiber.
Additionally, fiber helps you feel full and, consequently, prevents overeating, which can ultimately lead to weight loss.
Kale is a powerful ingredient for weight loss smoothies. It helps shed weight and detoxifies the body, keeping it clean.
Ingredients
Check out the healthy ingredients, which are low in calories, that I have used on the blog below.
Kale leaves: Fresh kale leaves are packed with fewer calories to provide a fresh green color to the smoothie.
Avocado: This green vegetable is a cholesterol-lowering veggie that can prevent many heart issues when used in healthy diets or meals.
Banana: To give the smoothie a smooth texture as well as a thick consistency and a good taste, using banana is a good choice.
However, it is entirely optional for those who do not prefer to use it in smoothies.
Baby spinach: Another green vegetable to make a filling low low-calorie smoothie is baby spinach, which adds a fresh taste as I am using fresh leaves.
Almond milk: Using an unsweetened form of almond milk is mandatory as we aim here for weight loss drinks without adding unhealthy sugars. So, opt for unsweetened for of non-dairy milk to blend the smoothie.
Chia seeds: These fiber-rich seeds not only add fiber but also help in providing better digestion and aid in your weight loss goals.
I have other chia recipes, such as a chia seed water recipe for weight loss and chia seed tea.
Water: Adding water according to the required consistency preference is a must to help consume the drink easily.
Honey: To make the smoothie easy to consume, add some sweetness. Adding honey is a perfect choice, but since a tablespoon has a good calories, make sure not to add more than a tablespoon to a glass of smoothie.
Instructions
- Add kale leaves, peeled avocado cubes, peeled banana, and baby spinach leaves to the jar.
- Pour the smoothie into a glass and serve the smoothie.
- Add unsweetened almond milk, water, chia seeds, and honey, and give a perfect blend to get the right consistency.
Substitutions
Non-dairy substitutions: Using soy milk in place of almond milk is also highly suggested, and substituting with other non-dairy milk is a perfect option.
Sweetener: Replacing honey with maple syrup or a zero-calorie sweetener, consequently, reduces calories.
As a result, this makes them better substitutes for low-calorie drinks without honey
Fruit: Strawberries make a better substitute in place of a banana, and using them also makes the smoothie a delicious one.
Variations
- Sweetness can be increased or decreased based on the preference, but keeping calorie value in mind.
- Greens, too, can be skipped or can be increased in quantity for a more filling smoothie.
Storage
If you are planning to drink it in a day or two (24-48 hours), store it air-tight in the refrigerator in a mason jar or any tight container and consume within a day.
To store in the freezer, the better solution is to have all the solid ingredients sealed in a zip lock and use them only when ready to drink.
Take all the sealed frozen ingredients from the freezer, add them to the blender by adding a liquid in the form of milk or water. Give a good blend and consume immediately.
This is a perfect way of storing and also consuming the freshly made smoothie without storing.
Storing fresh juices and smoothies can lose their nutritional value. I recommend consuming them fresh to preserve their flavor.
When to drink
The drink is suitable as a morning smoothie that helps you stay full before breakfast and helps in carrying out activities with full energy.
Having it as a pre-workout or post-workout meal, for instance, is a healthy choice to help keep you full.
Additionally, it can also help burn fat slowly and prevent energy loss during physical activity
