Chilli chicken is an indo chinese version of making chicken which has become quite popular in India. It has been posted along with a video procedure. It is basically found on the streets of India in every fast food centre. I have made exactly the street food version of the recipe which is more than delicious and something that can be made at home.

About the recipe

Indo Chinese has become a favourite cuisine for many Indians and they regularly visit restaurants to enjoy this cuisine and nothing can be better than making the same dishes at home and having them.

I have tried many various ways of making chicken chilli but this particular method of mine has proven to be best in taste and perfect to be called as a street food style of making it.

The techniques used are similar to the one's used while making Indian street food indo chinese recipes.

There are other chicken recipes on the blog that can be tried as a starter are kfc chicken etc...

It is totally a different recipe where we make use of different sauces and we do not use any common basic indian ingredients other than dry spices.

It is made usually across Indian streets but we all love to try the indo chinese cuisines at home and I thought of sharing them at my blog bringing to my blog readers the best of restaurant versions...

I have already shared some of the indo chinese varities like egg fried rice, chicken fried rice and now bringing to you the mostly ordered dish which is chicken chili.

How it is made?

This recipe is made by deep frying chicken and then sauteing in some different spices and sauces. Here I have made use of soya sauce, red chilli sauce which gives a very delicious flavor to the chicken.

Into the chicken we also add green chillies, onion and capsicum cubes which completely lift the flavors of the chicken.

Chicken manchurian is also made in a similar manner but the variations of it in adding different sauces give a different flavor and taste compared to chicken chilli.

How to give gravy consistency?

It has a texture of dry chilli chicken which I have showed in the video however, if we want to make gravy kind of chilli chicken, follow the same procedure but increase the quantity of corn starch, soya sauce and add some more water which gives a little gravy to the chilli chicken.

This dry chilli chicken tastes best eating with a roomali roti or any roti recipe or we can have it plain.

Below are the recipe details on how to make chilli chicken dry recipe with detailed steps and video procedure.

Ingredients

boneless chicken: I am using boneless small size chicken cubes to make it as the chicken tastes best as a starter if the boneless chicken is used.

 all-purpose flour and cornflour: These ingredients are used while marinating and making fritters of the chicken. Adding them gives the crunch as well as gives a good flavor to the fritters or fried chicken pieces.

dry spices: These are the basic spices that are added to every chicken marinade such as salt, red chili powder, ginger garlic paste etc.

egg: To make the chicken soft egg is added which makes the fried chicken soft from inside.

Soy sauce and vinegar: Since it is an indo-chinese style recipe, adding these two ingredients gives the chinese touch as well as soy gives a good fragrance as well as flavor to the recipe.

Sauteing: This is the most important step to make chilli chicken. Here, the chicken is added to sauteed chillies, garlic, onions, capsicum, chilli sauce, corn starch which gives a good gravy to the dish.

Step by step procedure

For marinating chicken

  • In a bowl, add boneless chicken. Chicken washed well.

  • add maida, cornflour, salt as per taste, add red chilli powder, ginger garlic paste, beaten egg, soya sauce, vinegar, mix well.

  • If thick add some water and mix well again.

  • In a wok add oil for deep frying and heat it. Drop the marinated chicken pieces and fry the chicken pieces on low to medium flame until they turn crisp golden color.

  • Take them out and place them on a tissue paper for further use.

Making of chilli chicken by sauteing in sauces

  • In a wok/pan, add oil and heat it. Add finely chopped garlic and finely chopped ginger and saute for a minute. Add vertically slit green chillies and saute for a minute.

  • Add one finely chopped onion and saute till onions turn soft.

  • Add onion and green capsicum which have been cut into cubes.

  • Saute and cook for 2-3 minutes until they turn soft on high flame.

  • Reduce the flame and add red chilli sauce, soya sauce, vinegar, salt, black pepper powder and mix well. Saute for about two minutes on low flame.

  • Garnish with spring onion greens and chopped coriander leaves, mix well.

Ingredients
  

For the chicken marinade:

  • 200 gms boneless chicken cut into small pieces and washed well
  • 7 teaspoon maida/all purpose flour
  • 3 teaspoon corn flour
  • salt - to taste
  • ½ teaspoon red chilli powder
  • 1 teaspoon ginger garlic paste
  • 1 beaten egg
  • 1//2 teaspoon soya sauce (dark)
  • ½ teaspoon vinegar
  • ¼ cup water

For sauteing chicken:

  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1 teaspoon very finely chopped garlic
  • 1 teaspoon very finely chopped ginger
  • 5-6 vertically slit green chillies
  • 1 onion (finely chopped)
  • 1 onion (cut into cubes)
  • 1 green capsicum (cut into cubes)
  • 2 teaspoon red chilli sauce
  • 1 teaspoon soya sauce
  • 1 teaspoon vinegar
  • salt - to taste
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper powder
  • corn flour paste (1 teaspoon corn flour mixed with 3 teaspoon water)
  • red chilli paste (½ teaspoon red chilli powder mixed with 2 teaspoon water)
  • ¼ cup water
  • 2 tablespoon spring onion green
  • 2 tablespoon chopped coriander leaves

other ingredients:

  • oil for deep frying

Instructions

Notes

1.If gravy chilli chicken is required then, increase the quantity of corn flour paste and sauces while sauteing the chicken.
2.Also add more water to get a thick gravy while sauteing.
3.If spicy chilli chicken is preferred then increase the quantity of green chillies in the chicken.
