Instructions
Step 1:
- Firstly, take a wok, heat it, add peanuts into it and dry roast them for few minutes.
- Cool them down, peel the peanuts and rest them aside.
Step 2:
- In a separate pan, add oil and heat it.
- Add chopped green chillies, thickly chopped onions, saute for few minutes on low flame.
- Add tamarind pieces, cook and saute the whole mixture until they turn slight brown or pink in color.
Step 3(Blend the chutney):
- In a blender, add the peeled peanuts and powder them finely.
- Into the powder, add the cooked mixture of chillies, onions and tamarind.
- Add salt as per taste.
- Add water as per consistency required.
- Blend the chutney into a fine paste.
- Transfer the chutney into a bowl.
Step 4(Give tadka):
- In a sauce pan, add oil and heat it.
- Add cumin seeds, mustard seeds and allow them to pop up.
- Add dried red chillies and stir for few seconds.
- Add curry leaves and let them crackle.
- Transfer this tadka all over the chutney.
- Serve the chutney with idli, dosa uttapam etc...

Onion Tomato Chutney Recipe For Dosa Idli
Ingredients
For the chutney:
- 2 tablespoon oil
- ½ teaspoon cumin seeds/jeera
- 1 teaspoon urad dal/split black gram/mina pappu
- 2 dried red chillies
- 4-5 medium size onions thickly sliced
- 2-3 medium size tomatoes thickly sliced
- 4-5 slit green chillies
- 4-5 long tamarind pieces
- salt - to taste
For the tempering:
- 1 tablespoon oil
- ½ teaspoon mustard seeds
- ½ teaspoon cumin seeds
- ¼ teaspoon urad dal
- ¼ teaspoon chana dal/bengal gram optional
- 3-4 dried red chillies
- 4-5 curry leaves
Instructions
For the chutney:
- Firstly, in a wok, add oil and heat it.
- Into it, add cumin seeds, urad dal/split black gram, dried red chillies and stir well.
- Into it add green chillies and stir.
- Into it add sliced onions and mix well.
- Add tomatoes, tamarind pieces and cook for 5-10 minutes on sim flame until all the ingredients turn soft.
- Cool down the whole mixture.
- In a blender, add all the ingredients, add salt according to taste.
- Blend the mixture until the chutney turns soft and transfer the chutney in a bowl.
For the tempering of chutney:
- In a sauce pan, add oil and heat it.
- Into it, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds and allow it to crackle.
- Add urad dal, chana dal and stir.
- Add dried red chillies and mix well.
- Add curry leaves too and let them crackle.
- Transfer the tadka/tempering onto the chutney.
- Serve the chutney with plain hot rice and ghee!!!

Hi Jen thanks for the feedback...Since it has onions in it...It can last max upto 2-3 days and do store it air tight..Because we have added onions it cannot be stored for a long time...
