Variations and Substitutions

Using mixed berries in place of just blueberries is also highly suggested.

One can use a cup of frozen mixed berries to boost the smoothie with more vitamins and nutrients.

Mango can be substituted with half of the frozen banana slices, which boosts fiber and makes it a filling smoothie.

To add more sweetness, increase the quantity of the dates or add a teaspoon or tablespoon of honey or maple syrup but add in moderation as they contain good calories.

You can also use other liquids to blend the smoothie, such as non-dairy milk(almond milk, soy, or oats milk)

Using a healthy liquid is also beneficial, but avoid using fruit juices and flavored yogurts as they can turn a healthy smoothie into an unhealthy one.

How to decrease or increase the smoothie calories?

This recipe shares the procedure to make a healthy smoothie with moderate calories.

To increase the calories, add plain yogurt or low-fat milk to add slightly more calories.

To add more calories, add sweeteners such as honey or maple syrup and avocado.

The frozen fruit smoothie can make the smoothie a high-calorie smoothie in a healthy way and makes a good meal replacement smoothie.

However, high calorie does not help you with weight loss but can lead to weight gain if those calories are not burnt.

Therefore, it is always a good decision to have low calories to stay fit and to manage weight better without the need to burn calories with heavy workouts.

This smoothie with yogurt and frozen fruit is approximately 400 calories, but to reduce the calories and make it under 300, skip adding dates or skip mangoes that can reduce the calories further.

Another alternative to making a low-calorie smoothie is to reduce the quantity of greek yogurt and add water according to the desired consistency while blending.

Can you put frozen fruits straight into a smoothie?

Yes, you can, but if the blender’s speed is not good, it can make the smoothie lumpy. Blend well for a minute or two with a good power blender.

The frozen fruits blend well if thawed at room temperature before using them to blend.

Using a good amount of liquid helps to blend the smoothie well with a good-speed blender and not make it lumpy.

Is greek yogurt healthy in smoothies?

Yes, using greek yogurt instead of frozen yogurts or flavored yogurts is the healthiest choice.

Fat, sugar, and cholesterol-free greek yogurt is an excellent choice to add to drinks.

Add other kinds of yogurt to increase the calories as well as increase the carbs.

Greek yogurt is full of protein with no fats or sugars that keep the calories low but provides sufficient nutrients.

Do I need to defrost frozen fruit before blending?

It is better to defrost the fruit at room temperature for a few minutes before making the smoothie, as they help you easily blend.

If you prefer to avoid defrosting the fruits, blend the smoothie on high speed until it does not appear but use a good amount of liquid to help the smoothie puree well.
